Chicken Pox

Just came back from seeing the doctor. Am told to stay indoors. Doctor has seen many case of chicken pox for the past 2 to 3 weeks. Sounds like an outbreak. And we don't hear of this in the local media. Like what news do they deem worthy enough to report? And wheres the warning from HPB?

JG

I was wondering why the incumbent has been hitting hard on James Gomez. After all the poor man merely thought he had submitted a form. Futhermore has apologised. Perhaps its a polictical strategy to win more votes from his party. But after searching google, perhaps they fear him. To quote Yoda, "Fear leads to the dark side".

According to ThinkCentreAsia.org, Gomez is no novice in politics, he has written a book, Self-Censorship: Singapore's Shame, organised a polical rally titled, "Save JBJ Rally" and voted by Asiaweek as one of Asia's 50 Most Powerful Communicators and later, Asia's Top Ten "Rebels &; Mavericks". He has a news website, http://www.jamesgomeznews.com and a blog even.

Now that he has been arrested. To allay all doubts and fears of the people, I hope the government will prove to us, that he is a liar as they claim him to be. Goverments reputation is at stake here. But you know what, no matter the outcome, our government will have left a certain dark stain in all of us.

Outcome as expected..

And so the incumbent party has won the day ( as expected ). But what surprised me was the increased margin in Potong Pasir and Hougang. Wow! Three cheers to the voters there for not biting the carrot ($180 milllion of upgrade funds promised). As for Aljunied GRC, close fight! Although the incumbent calls it a landslide (base on other countries standard), I think by Singapore standards, its a close 6.1% margin.

Aside from these slight change, all is well and the same. I really hope this new team will see us through difficult waters ahead. Makes me wonder, what will Singapore be like in a 100 years? Or 50. Will we still be relevant? Our success is not natural, we have little resource and land. Our past success was hugely base on our ports and skilled human capital. Our neighbours are fast catching up. How long can we run ahead? One thing that slows their progress is a stable government.

I guess in a way, we should be thankful for the incumbent. Despite their aristocratic ways and some goof ups, they are still the best. And can Singapore afford to bicker for days and months on issues? Our government is quick to act compared with our neighbours. Aside from being efficient there is little opposition in power to give them pause.

Lets hope that the incumbent will learn to be more humane, especially when implementing policies that affect our lives. If cost of living must be increased, then please, explain it clearly from all angles why. And do try to listen to all feedbacks and not just collect feedback for the sake of it. And lastly, try to spend some time with your people in your constituency.

Election

Yes, its election time. Where my estate is spick and span. Its a new estate, but yet I see over zealous cleaners working hard. Town council even advertise in advance what they are going to do, build a shelter connecting our block to the LRT. Wa.. this whole new estate is so new, yet they are upgrading (so soon ah?). Pooi! If its so new, why not build it from the start in the first place?!

And the past few days election news covered by the local media is so bloody boring! Nothing but news on a man who thought he had submitted a form. Come on! Once is enough.. not pages and pages and hours and hours of reporting on it. I have stopped buying the papers. SG Rally has better coverage of the whole election rallies. Lets move on! Looks like the incumbent party finally realise this and has started to focus on real issues.

These past elections, the main topic is always upgrading. Cheh! Upgrading is not free. Don't we have to co-pay? Isn't it our money in the end. Tax payers money? I am saving my progress package payout in anticipation of new policies that will impact my cost of living.

Just two days ago, an MP in a lorry drove past my place. Waved at me and smiled that politician smile. Out of courtesy, I waved and tried to smile. Very hard to smile when MP only drive by just before election. Ok, so MP is too busy meeting the people, then what about those grass roots people?! Oh wait, they are busy too. After all don't these people have their own personal agenda? And the incumbent party dare say that the opposition is around only for the election, after the election they are nowhere to be seen. Actually he will be seen, yes. On the local media. Announcing new policies. Policies I am anticipating.
  1. Increase in public transport (PTC fare decision delayed just before election).
  2. More ERP (or increase charge)
  3. GST increase
  4. CPF cut wouldnt be restored
  5. Higher carpark charges
Anyway, tomorrow is polling day. I better follow instructions on how to submit my vote. Don't want the election department to confront me with a CCTV footage and demand an explanation from me.
